Dear members

ASIS International (Singapore Chapter) is organising the Q3/2018 Field Visit to Gardens by the Bay on Friday, 17 August 2018.

As a strategy by the Singapore government to transform Singapore from a “Garden City” to a “City in a Garden”, Gardens by the Bay was developed to be Singapore’s premier leisure destination, and a national icon.

With a land area of 101 hectares, Gardens by the Bay comprises three distinctive waterfront gardens – Bay South Garden (54 hectares), Bay East Garden (32 hectares) and Bay Central Garden (15 hectares).

The Gardens was completed in June 2012 and was officially declared opened by Singapore’s Prime Minister on 28 June.  It features the Themed Gardens – World of Plants and Heritage Gardens, the Cooled Conservatories – Flower Dome and Cloud Forest and our iconic Supertrees.  It also features a water system that surrounds the Bay South Gardens, encompassing the Dragonfly Lake and the Kingfisher Lake that integrate with the Marina Reservoir.  Both lakes captured run-offs from within the Gardens and act as a natural eco-filter for the Marina Reservoir.  Water from the reservoir is pumped into the Lake system to be filtered and cleansed by the aquatic plants in the lakes before flowing back into the Marina Reservoir.

The number of visitors on a weekday is about 25,000, and about 35,000 on weekends and PH. Gardens by the Bay has become a popular destination for tourists and a national icon of Singapore. The challenges of mitigating security threats and risks remain a challenge faced by the security team at Gardens By the Bay, and this field visit presents a great opportunity to learn from one another.
