Dear Members
ASIS International (Singapore Chapter) will be organising our 4th educational field visit for 2017 to the KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital (KKH) on Friday, 3 November 2017.
As part of ASIS International’s mission to pursue excellence in security management, we regularly organise field visits to various organisations to enable our members to learn and share best practices.
From KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital humble beginnings as a small general hospital in 1858 to a 30-bed maternity hospital in 1924, KKH has grown into an 830-bed hospital providing obstetric and gynaecology, neonatology and paediatric services. Often affectionately referred to as “KK” amongst locals, it is the birthplace of a sizeable proportion of Singaporeans, delivering over half of total newborns in the country as early as 1938. In 1997, the hospital moved to its present site. In 2003, the old premises was marked as a historical site by the National Heritage Board, a tribute to an institution that has been the birthplace of over 1.2 million Singaporeans since its inception.
Being our first field visit to a healthcare facility, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital is a choice location because of its uniqueness and the challenges in the area of security and safety. In light of recent self-style, lone wolf, vehicular attacks and various permutations of risk to soft targets such as hospitals, there will be a lot of learning values from this session which would include a visit to KKH’s Security Control Room and Fire Command Centre.
Please join us to understand KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s security and safety operations, and the challenges faced by their security team.
